When I reached the hostess desk, I almost missed my lunch partner.
Why?
Because I expected to see my friend wearing a show-stopping designer outfit complete with power pumps.
Instead she wore the typical uniform of professional New York women, a black dress.
Based on my expectations I dressed in a blouse and yellow patterned slacks with a long grey jacket.
The irony:
In my corporate life, my outfit would have been borderline acceptable even on a Friday in the summer!
When I confided this, my friend laughed and admitted that she often gets this type of reaction.
Why?
Because her personal Facebook feed makes you instantly want to race over to Saks Fifth Avenue. (For the record, I lack the clothes shopping gene!)
Her Facebook outfits are so drool-worthy that I assumed that a designer or brand gave them to her to gain visibility from her position as a female CMO influencer.
Since my father was the CFO of a midsize Madison Avenue advertising firm, I have a healthy dose of skepticism about what I see on social media.
Before you think that I've succumbed to FOMO (or fear of missing out):
These fashion photos inspire my knitting craft.
My friend’s reality:
She carefully curates what she shares on social media. As a true marketer, she monitors her engagement. But she did lament the fall in reach.
