Dear ,
When the UN is in session, New York City’s usual overloaded traffic barely
moves. Even New York’s finest (aka: police) remain helpless to prevent gridlock. So I wasn’t surprised the President arrived late to the UN from his midtown apartment. A more fit man would have abandon the comfort of his vehicle and walked as I did to get to my doctor located around the corner from his New York City residence. My doctor takes a break from his usual jackets and ties on Fridays. He wears black scrubs instead. Having helped a boutique private equity firm acquire two scrubs merchants, I have special “scrubs” radar the way that some women focus on designer
labels. But I
must admit that my doctor is the first medical professional I’ve encountered to wear black scrubs. My husband would say that like many New Yorkers he wears black because he can’t find anything darker. By contrast, my mother would point out that he’s being practical since even dried blood won’t show on black scrubs. Like my doctor, I’m a fan of black clothes regardless of what the Pantone color of the year is. I know that black is the
absence of color, the way the streets feel when they’re bathed in smoke from idling cars that can’t move. Despite the crowds and bad traffic, I’m proud of my city. I believe that it’s safer than most places in the world. So I willingly put up with the inconvenience of the major events and tourists that the city attracts. This week, I’ll be in Philly for Heroic Public Speaking with Michael and Amy Port to continue to hone my speaking skills. I look forward to see how Andrew Davis dazzles this
