Dear ,
After the rainy remnants of
Hurricane Florence left New York City, the weather was clear and warm. Last Thursday, I had the good fortune to hear my colleague Paul Roetzer of PR2020 talk about Marketing AI at a reception at email marketing firm, ReturnPath. Roetzer explained Marketing AI in non-techie terms. (Check out the MarketingAIInstitute to get up to speed and here are ReturnPath’s resources.)
While I could have studied the information on my own, I used the event to get out and network. Boy am I glad that I did! In addition to getting the Marketing AI primer I needed, I got the opportunity to reconnect with ReturnPath CEO Matt Blumberg. Even better, I got to drink in one of the most spectacular
views of Manhattan. You’d think that a born, bred New Yorker would be jaded to 360 degree views but the positioning of 3 Park Avenue and the weather combined to deliver amazing views. Located on the 41st floor of 3 Park Avenue, ReturnPath takes up the entire penthouse floor. The building has a square base that’s offset 45 degrees within a square. As a result, the panoramas show the buildings at unusual angles making it challenging to figure out which buildings you’re viewing. One of my favorite views was looking up Park Avenue with its green esplanade to Grand Central with the Met Life Building set behind it. You
can see the traffic get diverted around the building. By contrast, looking
downtown, the Flatiron Building, one of my favorites was nestled amidst similar height buildings. It didn’t stand out the way it does at street level dividing Broadway from Fifth Avenue. For me, the visit was
talk-worthy for the view and ability to walk around ReturnPath’s offices. In their latest book, Talk Triggers, Jay Baer and Daniel Lemin outline 4 requirements for a talk-trigger: - Must be remarkable
- Must be relevant
- Must be repeatable
- Must be reasonable
I’m not sure that Jay and Daniel would consider ReturnPath’s location a Talk Trigger—but I would. BTW, It’s a good think
that I don’t work at ReturnPath since I’d never get anything done. I’d be staring out the window all day. When I worked in Citigroup Center, I had an office on the 25th floor that faced west across 53rd Street. I loved staring out and watching the sunset over the Hudson. Fortunately for the bank, my desk was positioned to face towards the door reducing my street gazing time. On the subject of Talk
Triggers, I was one of the fortunate talk-worthy influencers who received a box of talk triggering goodies from Jay and Daniel. Despite my inner anti-waste eco-friendly self, I loved that the goodies came in a big box that could hold its own next to my newlywed neighbor's never-ending pile of packages. (I think that she single-handedly keeps the online economy going.) In addition to Talk Triggers, the box was filled with a stuffed alpaca, chocolate
chip cookies and a pink headband. While some of my peers have already taken to the social media airways to talk about their loot, my husband and I took the book and the alpaca to Brighton Beach for a scenic location shoot. We were very lucky the air was remarkably clear. Actionable Marketing Guide Tactic: - Ask yourself, “What can you do to make your business talkworthy?”
