actionable marketing guide
Dear , For me the Twin Towers were a part of New York City’s architectural lexicon. Sixteen years after the Twin Towers tumbled down, I still remember my mother’s call urging me to turn on the television. “Downtown looks like a Bruce Willis movie,” she said. When I ventured out of my apartment 5 miles north of the towers to get cash and food while they were still available what I found echoed my neighbors’ concerns. At my Citibank branch a hand scrawled note, “Closed Until Further Notice” was taped to the doors. The bank employee didn’t even take the extra few minutes to type and print it out on a computer! Two blocks away at my local grocer, the milk aisle told a similar a story. It was almost empty. A deafening silence fell across the city. Yet downtown in the rubble of the towers, there was light. It was striking to anyone who had spent any time in the Wall Street area in the shadows of the towers. Amidst the death and destruction, there was human warmth and a will to carry on. Since that fateful day, New York City has not only survived but also thrived. Millennial Tower now stands upright and tall adjacent to the 9/11 Memorial honoring those who died and those who tried saving them. As I give shape to my 9/11 memories, I’m acutely aware that friends, colleagues, readers and people with whom I have no connection are experiencing dislocation from Hurricane Irma as she plowed up Florida’s gulf coast. Our hearts goes out to the people in the path of the storm. As one US authority said during the hurricane preparations, “We’re concerned about human life. People can’t be replaced. Things can.” In the wake of the recent natural disasters, ask yourself, “What would I do if I were in danger’s path? Find the time to consider what’s truly important to you and where you want to focus your activities going forward. By contrast, my Content Marketing World 2017 experience seemed pedestrian. My biggest #CMWorld take-away: Find your peeps. This holds true for any live event whether it’s a mega-conference or a more intimate business gathering. Content Marketing World is a #contentmarketing reunion of friends and colleagues! It’s about being face-to-face. At a conference, it’s not only the keynotes and sessions that provide value but also the conversations you have and connections you make in the exhibit hall, at lunch, during evening activities and even in the hotel lobbies and restaurants. This holds true regardless of whether you’re a speaker, sponsor or attendee. Attending and interacting aren’t just about building community with other people who share your interests. It’s personal. Beyond doing business, attending is about being with people in the moment and caring about them. For those of you who want to meet me IRL, I’m attending MarketingProfs B2B Forum in Boston, October 3rd – 6th. I’m presenting a Teach Me How session entitled, “The Inside Scoop on 3 Proven Steps to Amplify and Distribute B2B Content.” It’s followed by a post-presentation working session. For those of you who plan ahead, consider getting your ticket now for Social Media Marketing World 2018 this coming March while it’s $550 off the full package. If that’s too big an investment consider getting a creator’s pass. (It includes my session on blogging!) Happy Marketing Heidi Cohen |
