actionable marketing guide
Dear , Ready, set, let the holiday shopping begin! Since last week, your Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday promotions have been set and, may be, even completed. So let me take a moment to spotlight the Presidential Medals of Freedom. Last Wednesday, my husband interrupted his gym workout to call. “Put on the television and listen to the President,” he said. He waited as I pushed the button on the TV remote control. “Go back to the beginning. It’s worth your time!” Obama eloquently praised each one of the Presidential Medal of Freedom recipients. His remarks were tailored made and witty. They underscored each person’s unique contribution to society. What struck me most was these men and women went beyond doing their job or chosen profession. They used their position to make the world a better place in their own special way. Among them was Robert Redford. Redford could have had a successful Hollywood career as a pretty boy actor. Instead he went from academy ward winning actor and director to found the Sundance Film Festival that gives independent filmmakers a place to get discovered. I point this out because we sometimes get so focused on the details of the next promotion, campaign or big rock content that we forget that our lives are about something greater than just our job or profession. This is particularly important because it’s our responsibility to make the world a better place for everyone. One small step at a time. In our own special way. It’s the vision many of our younger colleagues and coworkers have for this world. You don’t need a visit from Charles Dickens’s Scrooge to enlighten you. Take a few minutes to reflect on what you have and the people you know. It won’t take very long. Ask yourself, what I can I do to help those around me? Then just do it! Don’t wait. You’ll feel better. If you’re thinking professionally, read my friend Andy Crestodina’s Thanksgiving article. It’s got 15 ways to pay-it-forward professionally. Then you can get back to your regularly scheduled marketing promotions. Don’t forget to monitor your holiday promotions carefully. You can find areas where you can improve results. Also, consider offering customers a post-Christmas promotion. It’ll get them back after the holidays. Need last minute holiday content creation inspiration?
